I rode the CC Luton reliability ride. I chose the first group - maybe faster, but I knew that if I got dropped then Tim Kirk would be in the next group along the road.

After about 15 miles there was a nasty crash and one bloke went down and hit the deck he was scratched and I think he broke his wrist. I hope he's OK and got back safely. His mate had a spoke or 2 taken out of his back wheel.

Through Wing and on to Swanbourne it was still quite steady, I got to the front once! It got faster down towards Pitstone and down towards Aldbury. Then there it was Tom's Hill. I've not climbed it hat fast before. By the time I got to the top I was in the 2nd group, chasing the 1st cats. And after a 5 minute through and off session, we caught them. It was a bit tricky as going down the other side of Ashridge there was a 1000+ runners coming up the road in a 1/2 marathon. On the second climb I held my own. And on the 3rd big one Trowley Bottom I was a bit cooked, and was with 2 other guys on the last leg through Studham. I was strongest and pulled one of them back home the last 10 miles.

I'm chuffed. 61 miles in 3Hr 9'. 19.7mph average. Bike was great. No punctures with some tougher tyres on the wheels.

230 miles in the week. I'm looking forward to the HONC. I'm gonna be storming!

What next?
